Explore the primary landmarks before visiting the extraordinary Penguin Place on this delightful Dunedin tour.

Highlights of Dunedin and Penguin Place

Your pleasurable adventure begins at Port Chalmers wharf, where your guide will escort you along Harbour Road into Dunedin City. After visiting main sights and Baldwin Street, the world's steepest street, you'll see Otago Peninsula from a prime vista. Then, you'll visit the Penguin Place to learn about and have the opportunity to observe the yellow-eyed penguin at Pipikaretu Beach. Nature and bird watchers find this tour to be very pleasant.

A visit to the city and Baldwin Street, noted by Guinness Book of World Records as the steepest street in the world, begins your guided adventure. The corner boutique at the top has interesting wares on display. Next, you'll travel through University of Otago, reaching Peninsula High Road for stunning coastal views and picturesque St. Clair Beach esplanade.

Thereafter, you'll arrive at Penguin Place, a conservation reserve. The life and ecology of the Yellow-Eyed Penguin are thoroughly explored before reaching secluded Pipikaretu Beach for an expedition of the Penguin's habitat. There are several gentle steps leading into the reserve. Walking tracks are over gently rolling terrain through an innovative series of camouflaged tunnels and hides. The tour also passes a colony of New Zealand fur seals, providing good viewing of seals on nearby rocks.

Reserve this special tour today, a must-do for all nature lovers.

Special Note: The Yellow-Eyed Penguins' nesting season in 2018 has not been as busy as in years past. Sightings of Yellow-Eyed Penguins are extremely rare. You will see Little Blue Penguins, Fur Seals, and other birds in the reserve, but there are no guarantees you will see the Yellow-Eyed Penguin until the molting season begins in early February.
